Evaluation and treatment for pediatric speech sound disorders
What are speech sound disorders?
As young children acquire language, it is normal to pronounce sounds in words incorrectly. Clear speech develops over time. Each speech sound (e.g., “b” in ball) is expected to be mastered by a certain age.
When a child has not developed speech sounds beyond the expected age, a speech sound disorder (SSD) may be present. Common SSDs include articulation developmental disorder and phonological processing disorder.
